Closed captioning is higher education is generally geared toward students with some kind of disabilities. However, regardless of having any disability, studies suggest that most students in today’s colleges and universities use closed captions at least some of the time, among whom about 90 percent find them at least moderately helpful for learning. Specific ways in which closed captions can aid learning include comprehension, accuracy, engagement, and retention.
