A purposeful digital collection to showcase skills and share ideas.
ePortfolios are powerful tools to share accomplishments and achievements. The main component of an ePortfolio often includes self-reflections relating to the learning and discovery process. An ePortfolio is simply a website that allows you to showcase and share a digital archive of your work.
If you are enrolled in #EmTechMOOC in Coursera you will create your own ePortfolio as you work through the modules. You will be guided back to the Discovery Exercises in EmTechWIKI to create artifacts to display within your ePortfolio.
An artifact is a document or media file that demonstrates your learning and experience. Optimally, an artifact is an “example of your work” and something that you create that serves as digital evidence, such as an image, document, video, audio, a presentation, or anything that results from your exploration of the EmtechWIKI tools or resources.
Some of the resources that you explore will not result in a personal creation. One example of when an artifact would not result in a personal creation is if you read a relevant blog article or watch a video. In this case, it is OK to link to the resource and include an image that relates to the item or even embed the actual resource that you explored directly into your ePortfolio page. Always provide proper attribution to make it clear if an item is not your personal creation. Including visuals on your ePortfolio goes a long way to add interest and engage your viewers.
The culminating activity in #EmTechMOOC includes an ePortfolio peer-review activity. The instructions about how to participate in the peer-review activity are located in the final module within Coursera.
Choose an ePortfolio platform for #EmTechMOOC
See the EmTechWIKI ePortfolio Resources to discover a number of tools to help you build your ePortfolio. If your institution, or place of employment, has its own access to an ePortfolio platform, we strongly recommend that you make use of it. Not only will you develop more directly applicable skills, but you will have more direct access to the technical support provided. You are highly encouraged to customize your portfolio. Be creative and make it reflect your own personality.
